The plans for this ‘standard’ Vertue were ordered in August 1968 by hand written airmail letter and when the cost was GB £102 plus a few shillings. Named Yacabba she was built by the owner between 1970/71, painted white the only external aesthetic change being a pair of round scuttles each side of the doghouse in place of the raked Vertue style windows.
It was not until four years later that Yacabba was fitted with a working engine because when Bob Chambers bought her in December 1974.
Carvel hull planked with Jarrah planking below the waterline and Oregon pine above the original Vries 6hp had proven unreliable and gave at best 3½ knots.
The designers had received no communication throughout the construction period and early sailing years and were therefore delighted to hear from Bob and it was thought for a time that she had been constructed with an overall length some 12 inches longer than specified on the plans.
