In the text entitled ‘Small Offshore Cruisers’ (yachting World Annual 1956) John Illingworth wrote of the R.N.S.A. (Royal Naval Sailing Association) 24 that they had a most able and successful transom sterned hull; the most usual shortcoming of the transom stern type, that of having insufficient buoyancy aft to be an able boat, was cleverly avoided without making the hulls unduly fat and ugly aft. If they had a fault it was that with their modest beam they sailed somewhat on their sides.
To begin with all were designed without the raised doghouse and the purpose of the design was to provide a boat which would answer to the triple demands of a good cruising yacht, a fast day racer and a small ocean racer. Pocahontas was the first to be built but differed from the standard design in that she has the doghouse.
The structure of these R.N.S.A designs utilizes the bulkheads as structural members consequently by using these bulkheads as moulds complete dimensional uniformity is established between the hulls.
