Based on the rule of The Cruising Club of America rather than that of the Royal Ocean Racing Club Lutine but in Jack Giles’ own words she was a development of Maid of Malham built in a hurry for the 1952 Bermuda Race for which there was no time for a shake-down and she did not shine. Back in British Waters she certainly made up for it winning two Fastnet Races and the Channel Race in 1956.
The interior was influenced by the fact that she was to be a club yacht, and the whole of the middle portion of the accommodation is open, with sleeping for six in quarter berths and outboard of the settees.
She won many races under the Lloyds Yacht Club burgee before being sold, and then stripped of her keel and fittings. She has been totally rebuilt in time for the 2001 Americas Cup Jubilee and renamed Lutin
