The structural design of Miranda IV follows the typical lightweight philosophy that Laurent Giles were expounding with Fandango, Myth of Malham and F. J. Palmer’s ill-fated Chrunest. In May 1952 George Gill, Giles Partner at the time wrote in the first draft of his notes, ‘She took to the water without a hitch, handled like a top, and designed without a thought of racing or racing handicap rules, out-sailed all opposition in the Mediterranean passage races organized by the U.S.V.I. First to finish and first in her class in the race from St Tropez to Barcelona, first to finish and first in her class in the race from Barcelona to Palma di Majorca, and first to finish and first in her class and all classes in the race from Majorca to Ibiza, Miranda attracted more attention than any yacht of British design for many years past’.
