An ideal home build project; the design brief for this trail-able pocket yacht stated that the new design should be affordable for young people with or without children who are planning to take their first steps in cruising under sail.

Joshua Matthew has a safe and seaworthy hull with a manageable rig, no greyhound but not slow either. The design is responsive and maneuverable and the long keel provides a good base for drying out,

A transom rudder is practical and maybe unshipped when not in use, as may the bowsprit. There is a choice of inboard or outboard engine, but some purists may be content with a scull! She has a proper sea toilet with the appropriate holding tank and pump out facilities, cooking facilities and bags of stowage space.

We think that the design is perfect for those taking their first steps in cruising under sail, especially if they have one or two small children. The cabin has two full adult berths, there are two pipe berths in the fo’c’sle which are wide and long enough for all but the tallest teenagers.

Our Joshua Matthew design has been conceived to be built by her owner and is what we believe is an affordable, practical and safe, small boat design.

The coach roof is low and comprises a large sliding hatch giving good access below.  The cockpit is 5’3” long.  There are spacious cockpit lockers at the aft end of the seats.
