One of Tamahine’s leading design criteria was to achieve as high speed potential as was possible with a conventionally constructed 60 foot waterline, and with no significant regard given at the time for weight saving neither in the construction nor lightweight outfit materials all speed gains were as a result of refining and optimizing the hull shape. Giles was a great exponent of research and used tank testing facilities for the design of cruising yachts and later racing yachts long before the practice became main stream and for Tamahine, to attain the best possible hull form three different models were tank tested before the final lines were determined.
Tamihine was renamed three times: Afifa, Oxcombe and last recorded as Meribru.
