Richard Waterhouse considered building a sail boat to be a new direction in a lifelong interest in boating. He had two years experience as a boat builder and it was for this reason that he selected the extended ocean version with a short cockpit. He required just two berths, the cutter rig and a lead ballast keel. Richard asked for strip plank construction. A State Instructor of celestial navigation and experience skipper on a 37’ cutter he had never built his own boat.
The Partners recommended using American White Oak for the laminated back-bone and agreed Richards suggestion of Philippine Mahogany strip planks.
