Numerically Etain was Laurent Giles’ second commission, her lines laid down nearly twelve months after the much admired 52ft gaff yawl Clymene. In fact according to Jack Giles’ original hand written calculation book it becomes apparent that Etain’s very first sketches and preliminary calculations were undertaken more than a year after those of Clymene, and although Etain may have been the second of Giles’ designs to be built she was in fact the seventh design to be commissioned and this is reflected by her light construction specification which had not manifested itself on the earlier designs.
