Andrillot was conceived as a miniature ‘Bristol Channel Pilot Boat’ In Laurent Giles own words ‘with modest forward overhangs; full displacement; outside ballast and transom stern’. Andrillot’s hull maintained the general outward character of the Pilot-fishing boat but had the benefit of the concentrated thought on the design of sea-going yachts, which the activities of the Ocean Racing Club had by then fostered’
Andrillot is listed in Laurent Giles’ hand written Data Book as Vertue Number 1. Her beam is equal to one third of her waterline length, her bow moderately cut away; transom sloping and with the narrow waterlines aft it is easy to see why with the addition later of a small inboard engine, that Andrillot adopted a bow up pose. This characteristic was addressed on later boats and, with a minor modification to the ballast keel, was ultimately vanquished.

Construction scantlings of the carvel, strip plank & steel versions are outlined as are the variant deck arrangements, accommodation layouts and rigs.
