Launched in 1986 Ocean Goose is an outstanding example of what can be achieved in a one-off design. Her owner’s (2m) stature was a good reason to have a bespoke yacht built and he had previously owned and enjoyed ‘Bar Goose’, one of our Peter Duck class (PD25) design number 0054, and when the opportunity arose to replace her he found little on the market which provided enough headroom.
She was one of the last yachts drawn totally by hand, before the introduction of CAD and Barry van Geffen designed a flared hull with moderate displacement, a rig that would be manageable by two and the interior with a minimalist style.
The builders Rossiter Yachts of Christchurch, just a few miles west of Laurent Giles Lymington offices, commissioned West Custom Marine for the epoxy-glass and balsa cored hull. Rossiters then built onto this ply and teak laid decks, a splendid traditional low coach roof and fitted out the interior impeccably in mahogany and leather. A credit to the builders and perfectly reflected their complete skill and professionalism. Ocean Goose then spent eleven years away before returning for her first yard period.
