In the heyday of wooden long keel yacht construction very few were built to Lloyds Class. The Wanderer Class was one of the rare exceptions, a class of which some were built to Lloyds +100 Yacht Class.

Since 1963 thirty-seven Wanderer Class yachts have been built. Most famously the Cheoy Lee boats from Hong Kong from whom Eastern Wanderer was the first in 1963  Most recently W34 has been constructed using the strip plank and epoxy method on laminated frames, from drawings and specifications drawn by Laurent Giles in the late 1980’s

The Wanderer Class design was developed from Giles’ 1947 design number 0164 of Wanderer III that was built by William King for Eric and Susan Hiscock. They cruised Wanderer III extensively for 17 years and circumnavigated the world twice covering over 110,000 miles.  On most of her long passages Wanderer III averaged 100 miles a day, and on one occasion in the Indian Ocean she logged a day’s run of 169 Nautical miles.  Eric Hiscock said of her, ‘she proved to be an able, good mannered, seaworthy little ship.
