Built on the same design and by the same yard as Monie it was the exploits of Epeneta that gave the class its name. The class was actually named post war by Laurent Giles in recognition of the presentation to Lawrence Biddle and Humphrey Barton on Epeneta, of the Little Ship Club’s Vertue Cup for their crossing the Bay of Biscay in 1939. Even then it took a further eight years before it was official named The Vertue Class. Note the spelling with an e not i after Peter Vertue who provided the cup.
