Another of the early low coach roof versions with built on the same hull lines as Andrillot, Sally II and Monie. Francolin is currently one of the dozen or so Vertues based on England’s south-west coast.
You would be wrong if you thought that she was named after the owner’s twin sons Frank and Colin, the Francolin is a partridge-like terrestrial bird found naturally in Africa and Asia.
Francolin was the only Vertue to be built at Kimber’s Boat Yard on the river Brue near Burham on Sea where Harold (Kim) Kimber had established his boat repair yard in the same year as the formation of Giles’ own yacht design practice.
