Halcyon II is of cold moulded construction; three layers of Oregon pine sheathed with Dynel G.R.P mat and when launched was the better part of a ton light much to the puzzlement of Bill Matthew who had calculated the difference in construction weight to be minimal and offset by a larger engine.
Launched in September 1974 the basic design was similar to Ice bird (design number 0191) however recent photographs show a sheer line that is somewhat higher and less swept than Giles intended, and with less topside flare and a little more beam aft. She was built by the owner with ‘a little help’ from two professional boat builders. From early correspondence it is evident that there was some discussion about the type of timber to be used in the hull planking and the choices that were offered varied in weight from 32 lbs/cu ft to 58 lb/cu ft. Vertue V155 was renamed Thomasina and remains in Australia
