One time escort boat for Anthony Boyden’s Soveriegn 12m Americas Cup challenger, it is believed that Ravahine was in the Guinness Book of Records for towing Sovereign from Miami to Newport R.I. for the America’s Cup as being the longest tow of one yacht by another yacht.
Ravahine also had a cameo appearance in the 1974 Sophia Loren and Richard Burton remake of the movie Brief Encounter.
Ravahine was powered by two “U” 12 Foden diesels, and had a complicated but very strong drive system whereby her shafts extended beyond her props and were supported by skegs in cutlass bearings. These skegs also supported her rudders that were notched to allow the shafts to be withdrawn when on full lock.
