In 1971 when Seamaster Ltd. introduced their new Giles designed 19 footer they had already built up a big following for the larger Laurent Giles designed Seamaster Sailer 23 (see design number 0589).
This smaller, addition to the Seamaster range was offered with a choice of shallow draft (2’ 6” with the centerboard raised) or deep 3’ 3” fin keel. Twin keels had been offered but with no inquiries these were never actually manufactured. The rudder was transom hung which provided more space in the cockpit and combined with her 50% ballast ratio she exhibited a generally more ‘sporty’ feel than her larger sister.
The price tag in 1972 for the ‘standard’ boat with 6 h.p. inboard engine was £1850.00 – £200 less without the engine. Quite remarkably the interior layout had been arranged for four berths; the two saloon berths extending into the quarters beneath the cockpit seats.
Laurent Giles, always known for imaginative and innovative yacht design later modified the stern and rudder arrangement: extending the waterline slightly with a forward raked transom.

The second hand price of a Seamaster 19 is roughly the same as the original purchase price, so we very much doubt that anyone would contemplate building one of these yachts today. However there are very few around and if someone is inspired they can purchase a complete set of updated construction drawings (G.R.P or strip plank) with full size hull frame templates, and rig, sail plan and outfit drawings.
