A dentist practicing from Mairangi Bay on Auckland’s North Shore Mr Day knew exactly how his Vertue should be: “I shall probably settle for the two berth, short cockpit, masthead sloop version”. Being of six foot stature he did have some concerns about the berth lengths and headroom but was satisfied that the long doghouse version would provide him with the interior space that he desired.
Little is known of this particular yacht – she was to be called Pretty Girl, because Mr Day considered her to be small and pretty. At that time New Zealand boat builders were very busy and it was anticipated that construction would not commence until 1973/4; three years after the plans were purchased.
We would like to learn more of this particular Vertue: who were the eventual builders and whether indeed she is called Pretty Girl?
