All traces of Peeky was lost in the late 1950’s after she had been based in Jamaica for a few years. She had been renamed Tacita but it is not recorded when this was, or by which of her seven recorded owners.
She is a significant development within the Channel class – nearly ten years after Laurent Giles penned Verity A he acknowledged that the yachts carried no helm which was considered by most at the time as being undesirable. With the later yachts he proposed a change to the length of the mainsail foot, thus increasing the sail area aft and developing a small amount of weather helm.
This Channel class also differed from Giles earlier Channels and other recent race yachts by virtue of her graceful counter transom and sweet aft sheer-line: The design company had become known for the vertical ‘trademark’ transom which although effective on rating was thought by some to be rather ugly and attracted a lot of criticism.
As with all of the information published in the Laurent Giles Archive website the principal design data listed above is taken from Jack Giles own data book and observers will see that these do differ from some previously published material.
