After the success of the 100 or so Vertues and the exploits of Wanderer III, it was almost inevitable that Giles would be approached for a yet larger model of his long keel Bristol Channel cutter ocean cruising yacht genre.
This yacht was developed from the famous Wanderer III designed for Eric and Susan Hiscock’s voyage round the world in 1952. The hull is of the same well-proved character, but with more beam and a slightly lengthened forward overhang, which has added much to the grace of the profile.
Here we see greater transom rake than Wanderer III contributing to the proportionally greater overhangs. The later Wanderer Class yachts although smaller have a slightly higher displacement/length ratio but lower ballast ratio.
