When N. C. Sommers approached the partners in April 1974 his principal question was in regard to the likely building cost should he commission a Vertue 25’ yacht built in the UK. At that time it was estimated that it might be possible to find a small builder who could take on one of these boats. The price would be somewhere in the region of £8,000 to £10,000. A month later the Partners received his order for a set of plans which he would take to various builders in Australia.
His selection included the masthead rig, long doghouse deck arrangement, carvel planking on steamed timbers with a lead keel. Initially he was to fit an alloy mast but later in the construction process this was changed to wooden spars which, along with the mast ironwork were built from the plans supplied.
